About the event
Although Black Americans and Hispanics/Latinx people experience Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) at similar rates to other ethnic groups, OCD remains under-treated and under-researched within these communities. Several sociocultural risk factors are well-documented in the literature, however limited resources have been allocated and have examined how to best address these challenges. These findings underscore the need to explore approaches to increase treatment access and address factors that inform barriers to help-seeking and treatment engagement for minority population in the U.S. with OCD. This talk will provide a contextual understanding of the underrepresentation of Black and Hispanic individuals across the lifespan in OCD research and treatment, emphasizing OCD awareness and treatment engagement.
